Scores the Chung 2008 STOP-Bang obstructive sleep apnea screen. You assign four STOP flags (loud snoring, daytime tiredness, observed stop-breathing, hypertension), and BANG is computed from BMI above 35, age above 50, neck above 40 cm and male, with each worth 1 and a maximum of 8. BMI 35, age 50 and neck 40 cm do not score. It returns bands 0 to 2 and 3 or more, and is not Chung 2012 three-tier, not a medical device and not a sleep-study order.
WHEN TO USE THIS
When: I need a STOP-Bang score for a patient
For example: Send the four flags, BMI, age, neck and sex.
When: I need to know the risk band
For example: Read 0-2 or 3 and above.
When: I need to know if a borderline value scores
For example: Exactly 35, 50 and 40 cm do not score.
