Search the Earth-orbit satellite catalog
Written by Agorean from what the endpoint says about itself
Finds any tracked object in Earth orbit, filtered by name, country, type or launch year.
Searches a catalog of about 69,000 satellites, rocket bodies and debris tracked by the US Space Force and published by CelesTrak. Filter by name, owning or launching country, object type, launch-year range, international designator, on-orbit status, or an exact NORAD number. Each result gives the NORAD id, name, designator, type, owner, launch date and site, decay date, and orbital period, inclination, apogee and perigee. Built for anyone tracking satellites, debris or orbital traffic.
WHEN TO USE THIS
When: I need to know how many active satellites a country has launched
For example: Filter by owner and onOrbit=true, then read the total count in the response.
When: I have a NORAD catalog number and need that object's orbit details
For example: Query by noradId to get its period, inclination, apogee and perigee.
When: I need to find satellites from one program that are still in orbit
For example: Search by name (like starlink) with onOrbit=true to list only the ones that haven't decayed.
When: I need objects launched within a certain year range
For example: Set launchYearFrom and launchYearTo to narrow results to that window.
When: I need to tell debris apart from active payloads
For example: Filter by object type (payload, rocket body or debris) to separate them.
