Gives you the average rate the US Treasury pays on its debt, by type.
It returns the average interest rate the US Treasury currently pays on its outstanding debt, broken out by security type: bills, notes, bonds, TIPS, floating rate notes, savings bonds, and the marketable and total aggregates. Figures are for the latest reported month, in percent, with no ticker needed. It complements a separate Treasury yield curve by showing the government's actual cost of borrowing.
WHEN TO USE THIS
When: I need to know what the US government is actually paying to borrow right now
For example: Call it and read the marketable or total aggregate rate.
When: I need the rate for a specific type of Treasury security
For example: Read the rate field for bills, notes, bonds, TIPS, or FRNs specifically.
When: I want the government's borrowing cost alongside the yield curve
For example: Pair this with a separate treasury-yields endpoint for the fuller picture.
