Gives you BTC and ETH's share of the total crypto market cap, updated every few minutes.
Call it and it returns BTC and ETH market-cap dominance as a percent of the total crypto market, plus the total market cap and the number of active coins. It refreshes roughly every five minutes. It is for gauging whether capital sits in the major coins or has rotated into altcoins; a separate endpoint covers the alt-rotation read specifically.
WHEN TO USE THIS
When: I need to know what share of the crypto market BTC and ETH currently hold
For example: Call this endpoint to read BTC and ETH dominance as percentages.
When: I need the total crypto market cap right now
For example: Read the total market cap field from the response.
When: I want to gauge whether money is flowing into majors or into alts
For example: Watch BTC and ETH dominance over time; a falling dominance suggests capital moving to alts.
