Gives you the Fed's effective federal funds rate, with recent history.
It returns the effective federal funds rate, the Federal Reserve's benchmark policy rate, as a monthly average in percent. It includes the latest value, the prior month's value, the month-over-month and year-over-year change, and recent history. It needs no ticker, and is sourced from the St. Louis Fed's FRED database.
WHEN TO USE THIS
When: I need the current fed funds rate as a starting point for other rate analysis
For example: Call it and read the latest value.
When: I need to know how the rate changed from last month
For example: Read the month-over-month change field.
When: I need a run of recent fed funds rate history
For example: Read the recent history field instead of just the latest value.
