EU VAT number check against VIES

Send it an EU VAT number and it asks the European Commission's VIES service whether that number is valid right now. It returns the validation status and, when the member state supplies them, the registered company name and address. The seller is explicit that this is not tax advice and not proof a company is legitimate, an invoice is compliant, or a sanctions, KYC or AML check.
WHEN TO USE THIS
When: You are onboarding a business customer and need its VAT number checked first
For example: Run the number through it before opening the account and keep the status it returns.
When: You are about to invoice a company in the EU and need its VAT status today
For example: Check the number at invoicing time instead of trusting one stored months ago.
When: You need the registered company name and address behind a VAT number
For example: Send the number and read the name and address VIES returns, where the member state gives them.
